This handsome Art Deco plate features hobnail details, in translucent glass, around the perimeter, as well as a wealth of sterling silver overlay details. In the centre, two horses have been rendered in silver leaf with their necks apparently rubbing together in tender embrace. The image looks as though it could be a painting by Franz Marc translated in silvery monochrome. An abundance of Art Deco geometric patterns, created by striations of varying thicknesses, surrounds the equine figures, offering linear counterpoints to the organic forms of the horses. This would be a perfect plate for an elegant presentation of cheeses; a celebratory cake; or hors d'oeuvres. Furthermore, it is a compelling decorative object in its own right and an excellent example of Art Deco design that would look great atop an occasional table or a kitchen countertop. Excellent vintage condition. American, circa 1940 Dimensions: 1" H x 13" D.
